Job Summary:
The International Mechanic is responsible for assessment of the local DCA mechanic capacity in terms of human resources and equipment, in particular the vehicle fleet. He/she is responsible for the training of the local mechanics and building up their technical skills on a day to day basis.
The International Mechanic is responsible for proposing and organizing specific trainings for local personnel, and planning for upgrading of workshop technical capacity in terms of equipment.
He/she is overall responsible for repair and maintenance of the vehicle fleet as well as other repairs (e.g. generators) in the camp and guesthouse in Kadugli, and the office in Khartoum. The position is based in HMA South Kordofan field office in Kadugli, with possible travels to Khartoum and Alobeid.
The International Mechanic will report directly to the Logistics Officer. The person will be responsible for supervising staff in the workshop.
Responsibilities:

Capacity Building of local mechanics with focus on transfer of knowledge and build up of technical skills.

Assess qualifications of DCA mechanic workshop personnel and
- identify needed training
- undertake such training -
Review and adapt effective workshop procedures to ensure:
- regular vehicle maintenance, including maintenance system
- vehicle worksheets
- vehicle records
- vehicle amortisation system -
Organise workshop personnel and update job descriptions

Supervise workshop personnel

Assess workshop capacity vis-à-vis needs, and recommend best handling of maintenance and repairs

Undertake repairs, including generators and other mechanical related equipment

Define the needed spare-part stocks (and items ) in workshop

Review and adapt individual vehicle logbooks including:
- user authorisation (name, purpose, destination)
- pre-start checks
- sign over checks
- driver responsibilities
- kilometre entries start/stop
- fuel consumption -
Train drivers in all weather/all terrain driving & winch use

Train local and expats personnel in maintenance of generators

Identify prober local workshop and negotiate agreements and procedures for the use of local workshop

Identify shops where spare parts can be purchased

Coordinate with the DCA ProLog in order to follow procedures for purchasing e.g. EU regulations.
Key Qualifications:

Graduated mechanic

Prior experience with 4 WD engines

Able to communicate in English

Focused working attitude

Flexible

Good understanding of other cultures/professions

Willing to work in a developing country in strenuous conditions

Field mechanic experience.
Desirable:

Experience from working in a developing country
-
Prior experience with Toyata Landcruiser, Toyata Hilux, Yamaha Bigbear, car electrics, trucks/tractor, tire repairs and welding.

Prior experience as electrician (wiring, maintenance).
