Support dialysis patients

Israeli Wall hinders access to Augusta Victoria Hospital’s unique services

Access to essential medical treatment and medicines continues to be difficult as the Israelis have blockaded the West Bank and Gaza. Around 75 percent of the Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) patients come from the West Bank. If the checkpoints are closed, they cannot reach the hospital. This is particularly serious if they are dialysis patients, as the hospital has the only dialysis centre for children in the West Bank.

In 2004, the "Health and Hope Across the Wall" bus system was initiated by Augusta Victoria Hospital and the Israeli government.

The two routes, which are currently running, are a pick up service for patients from the areas south of Jerusalem. People have to pay public transportation prices when travelling on the buses; however that only covers 1/3 of the actual expenses. The remaining costs are raised directly from donors providing the hospital with money for the operation of the buses.

A gift of DKK 600 (approx. USD 97) can provide a bus pass to one dialysis patient for a month.
