World Food Programme

The World Food Programme came into existence in 1961 to make sure every person at all times has access to the food needed for an active and healthy life.

With an average food distribution of 3.7 million tons a year,  WFP has been able to reach more than 90 million beneficiaries in 73 countries.

WFP works with immediate food relief after emergencies, as well as preventing hunger through constant research on Food Security.

WFP distributes food through their own channels, especially in immediate responses to emergencies and for a maximum period of 3 months, but they also work through partner organisations and develop what they call Field Level Agreements (FLA), where national and international organisations distribute food that is contributed ‘in kind’ by WFP. There are several distribution options within the FLA: General Food Distribution, Food for Girl Education and Food for Recovery/Training /Work.

DCA in Sudan has worked with WFP on General Food Distribution and Food for Recovery to support a Food Security Project in Eastern Equatoria, where it was essential to construct a feeder road, for the producers to be able to reach a market site.
