55-year-old Mangli Devi is happy to have a new home. The old one was lost in the devastating Kosi floods of 2008. In the times to follow Mangli was able to rebuild her home and life with the support given by DCA. This is her story.

Struggling for life in seclusion

The isolated char islands in the Teesta River in Northern Bangladesh are a harsh place to survive. There are no doctors on the islands and the closest hospital is four hours away. Food is always scarce and hunger a constant companion. Read the testimonial by 87-year-old Kulsum Bibi, a widow with disability living on one of the char islands. DanChurchAid’s partner Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Services (RDRS) works in the region on disaster preparedness and relief.
