   <description>The Philippines is threatened with another typhoon. The residents have not yet recovered from the impact of Durian, which hit on November 30. As of December 14, more than 3,769 families were still being accommodated in evacuation centers in Albay province. More than 68,617 families lost their houses, while 45,199 families’ homes received partial damage. Food and non-food items are being distributed to the affected families in the evacuation centers and villages.</description>

   <description>Following the wrath of Typhoon Durian, which lashed the Philippines on 30 November, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has declared a state of emergency. The death toll is likely to exceed 1,000, with many of the casualties in the severely affected barangays in Albay Province, which were crushed by boulders and mud loosened from the slopes of Mayon Volcano by the heavy rains.</description>

   <description>Yanjin and Daguan Counties in Yunnan Province are located on an earthquake belt and have suffered several quakes (two of magnitude 5.1 and one of 4.7, with aftershocks of 2 to 3 on the Richter Scale) in July and August 2006. Although these quakes were not of a high magnitude on the Richter Scale, they were shallow (4 to 9 km in depth) and consequently caused widespread damage.</description>
