The first ever National Forum of “Act Development Central Asia” Alliance was successfully held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on November 6-7. The Forum brought together five international development agencies – ICCO (the Netherlands), DanChurchAid (DCA, Denmark), Christian Aid (United Kingdom), Norwegian Church Aid and Hungarian Interchurch Aid – and more than fifteen non-governmental organisations and microfinance institutions from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. DanChurchAid (DCA) has been implementing a Humanitarian Mine Action programme in Albania since 2002 and is planning to complete the clearance activities by the end of 2009 whereby Albania will be able to meet its clearance deadline under the Mine Ban Convention and the mine threat is removed from the lives of the Albanian population. These remaining mined areas are all located along the north eastern Albanian border – an area that was mined during the Kosovo conflict in 1999. Read more...

As reported by DanChurchAid's partner, Lutheran World Federation (LWF), floods and landslides triggered by incessant rain since Friday (19 September 2008) have left more than 33 people dead in mid- and far-western regions of Nepal. Kailali, Kanchanpur and Doti districts (far-west Nepal) have been severely affected. DanChurchAid's partner, LWF Nepal, mobilised its rapid assessment team in the affected area. DCA has finalised all tasks that has been entrusted to the programme by the Burundian government, except from one area, which continues to be inaccessible due to security reasons.
