Pakistan is in serious need of help after massive flooding hit the country as a result of heavy monsoon rainfall.

The worst floods on record have brought destruction to communities across five provinces of the
country.

DanChurchAid’s local partner, Church World Service, is already present in the areas that have been hit the hardest and are doing their best to assist the flood-affected persons with food, shelter, and medical assistance.

“There is an acute need for food, kitchen utensils, mosquito nets and tents,” says Emmeline Managbanag who is the Vice President of Church World Service Pakistan, which also has mobile health units providing the most basic health services.

DanChurchAid’s partner works in a district in the Southwestern province, Balochistan, and in three districts in the Northwestern province, Khyber Paktunkwa. Here the death toll is reaching over 800 people and more than 100 have been reported missing.

The Government of Pakistan is doing its best to help the population, but the need exeeds its capacity. Therefore, DanChurchAid urges the Danish Government to support NGOs that are already there helping.

A quick response is necessary

“There’s a big risk that epidemics will follow in the wake of a flood of these proportions, that’s why it’s essential with a quick response. DanChurchAid’s partner has already begun to provide emergency assistance together with other NGOs. We encourage Danida to support the work which is already going on now in order to avoid the break-out of epidemics,” says Henrik Stubkjær, Secretary General in DanChurchAid.

The 750.000 Danish kroner which DanChurchAid gives stems from Danida funds. The money will help finance 10.000 food rations, which last for two months, 2000 care packages with kitchen utensils, soap, mosquito nets etc. 2000 hygiene packages and 2000 tents.
