Focus on HIV/AIDS in Malawi

The aim of DanChurchAid's HIV/AIDS programme work in Malawi is to claim and uphold the rights of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, and to reduce new incidences of HIV-infections.

By working with the programme type Basic Social Services in Malawi, DanChurchAid is focusing on securing the right and access of marginalised people to basic social services and to combat the structural causes of disease and vulnerability, with particular focus on HIV/AIDS.

The overall objective for the HIV/AIDS work in Malawi is to reduce the susceptibility of the vulnerable, especially young women and girls, to HIV/AIDS, as they become empowered to exercise and uphold their rights.

The problems to be addressed:

  • dotGender imbalance
  • dotLack of protection by the law
  • dotStigma and harmful practices.

Main intervention areas:

  • dotAdvocacy and legal reform
  • dotHome based care support
  • dotRehabilitation of street children
  • dotCapacity building of partner institutions
  • dotAwareness raising in prevention and behavioural change.
