The border area between Thailand and Burma has been under intense pressure since Sunday's election. After 48 hours of intensive fighting between the military government and resistance groups, close to 20.000 Burmese fled to areas in the Thai provinces, Tak and Kanchanaburi.

For the time being this is where they are staying in camps designated for the purpose or with relatives and friends.

Small groups have spontaneously begun to return to Burma, but the situation around the border area is still highly unstable and more refugees are expected to come.
