DanChurchAid has a long history in India cooperating with a number of local organisations for instance the relief and development organization CASA (Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action), The Lutheran World Federation ( LWF) and The Arcot Lutheran Church.
CASA and LWF are big organisations with great experience in relief and emergency work, whereas The Arcot Lutheran Church is a smaller organisation locally anchored in southern India – one of the areas hardest-hit by the tsunami in India.
Both local knowledge and experience was decisive and crucial when the tsunami struck India.
In India, DanChurchAid has worked in a number of fishing villages; rebuilding permanent houses, distributing boats, engines and fishing nets, and helping people restart their businesses.
