Time to wake up and smell the climate change

28.05.2009: On 20th of May Dan Church Aid marked that there was 200 days till COP 15 – the international climate summit in Copenhagen.

The sound of alarm clocks and cell phones fills the air in front of the Danish parliament buildings “Christiansborg”. Dan Church Aid (DCA) felt the need to make alarm; if the goal of an ambitious climate agreement is to be fulfilled – it is time for the politicians to wake up and take action.

On this background DCA met 3 Danish EP-candidates in front of the Danish parliament. Margrete Auken, Hanne Dahl and Anna Mee Allerslev all declared their support for the three demands of the campaign Countdown to Co2penhagen and promised to work for an ambitious EU in the climate negotiations.

150 activists filled the streets of Copenhagen

Wearing nightgowns and PJs 150 young volunteers paraded through the streets of Copenhagen pointing to the fact that a very important agreement will be made in 200 days time. When the city square was reached, the volunteers tried to “wake” the Danish population by singing a morning song.

The volunteers also collected signatures for the petition. Altogether almost 500 signatures were collected, and the Danes generally seemed to be very supportive of the campaign.
