The European Union is one of the world’s largest providers of funds for humanitarian aid operations.
Since 1992, the Commission has financed relief projects in more than 140 countries, easing the suffering of millions of disaster victims in crisis zones outside the EU.
Within the Commission, the aid is managed by the Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO).
A Framework Partnership Agreement between ECHO and DanChurchAid enables DanChurchAid to implement ECHO funded projects worldwide in a broad range of sectors including water and sanitation, food aid, shelter, non-food items and humanitarian mine action.
Since 2000, more than 60 projects funded by ECHO have been implemented by DanChurchAid and its local partners worldwide. ECHO is the single largest humanitarian donor in the world.
In 2009-2010, DanChurchAid and its local partners, supported by ECHO, have implemented projects in India, Bangladesh, Sudan, Palestine, Ethiopia and Uganda. The interventions have helped hundreds of thousands of people to cope after natural and man-made disasters.
Aid is channelled impartially to the affected populations, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation, through operational partners.
