Women’s rights on the agenda

Copenhagen, 19/03/2008: Ms. Ulla Tørnæs, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, has established an MDG3 Champion Network of internationally prominent politicians, public and private sector leaders, and media and civil society representatives. The campaign - MDG3 Global Call to Action – focuses on the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG 3) on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. DanChurchAid's General Secretary Henrik Stubkjær is part of the MDG3 Champion Network.

Gender Net:
Gender Net , Network of Danish NGOs, institutions and resource persons to encourage joint co-ordination and sharing on gender and rights issues in development work.

”Women's rights are highly prioritized in all aspects of DanChurchAid’s work. I look forward to the cooperation and expect a lot from it,” says General Secretary Henrik Stubkjær after being appointed to Ulla Tørnæs’ gender network.

"It is a well-known fact that investing in the women in the development countries is not only reasonable – but also profitable," says Henrik Stubkjær.

Minister for Development Cooperation Ms. Ulla Tørnæs has presented the MDG3 Global Call to Action campaign , which will put women’s equal rights on the agenda – and keep them there.

Eight women and two men are meant to help Ulla Tørnæs reach the target.

DanChurchAid's General Secretary Henrik Stubkjær feels well prepared for the task: ”It is an advantage to us that the secretariat of Gendernet (an NGO net on gender and development) is located at DanChurchAid – as I expect a very close cooperation with them,” says Henrik Stubkjær.
