On the annual meeting of DanChurchAid participants shared their stories, on how hunger has become part of daily life in the worlds poorest countries.

The poorest, especially old people, single women and orphans are hit by the currently soaring food prices.

According to the World Bank, the global food prices will continue skyrocketing way into year 2015. DanChurchAid has therefore decided to strengthen the effort against global hunger in the years to come. This will include initiatives such as public campaigns and collections, to support the fight against hunger around the globe.

At the Annual meeting DanChurchAid also encouraged the Danish government and parliament to strengthen the effort against hunger. Suggested initiatives were:

- Invest in agricultural development in the worlds poorest countries

- Reform the EU and other rich countries’ agricultural policies and suggest trade agreements benefiting farmers in the world’s poorest countries.

- Take care that our efforts against climate changes, e.g. biofuels, do not make the food crisis even worse.

“Every fourth second a human being dies of hunger or a hunger-related disease. We cannot just stand by and watch this happen in a world of wealth and abundance. The fight against hunger must become a Danish main priority.”, Says General Secretary Henrik Stubkjær.
