| Wendy and Tina Rolle, voluntary collectors from Copenhagen, spent a couple of hours collecting money in the Noerrebro district of Copenhagen. The collected money goes to DanChurchAid's HIV/AIDS work in Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Cambodia and Russia. |
Equipped with a collecting box, 19.000 collectors spent their Sunday raising money for DanChurchAid’s HIV/AIDS work in Africa , Asia and Russia .
Although the number of volunteer collectors in Copenhagen in particular was lower than last year, DanChurchAid succeeded in raising DKK 14 million at the annual door-to-door collection today.
“The low number of volunteer collectors in Copenhagen could be because people feared more clashes between police and demonstrators after the clearance of the Youth House (“Ungdomshuset”) building in the Noerrebro district of Copenhagen. But the atmosphere in the Noerrebro district was in fact very positive. Especially in the neighbourhoods which were hardest hit by the recent riots, the inhabitants showed an enormous support to our collection,” says Henrik Stubkjær, General Secretary of DanChurchAid.

| In many shopping centres throughout Denmark, the Sunday shoppers used the opportunity to support the Parish Collection. |
The incredible result was due to the record-breaking collections in 1250 participating parishes and the new cooperation between DanChurchAid and Denmark's leading consumer goods retailer, COOP .
“We are very pleased that all of COOP’s retail chains and many shopping centres throughout Denmark kindly allowed our collectors to collect money inside and outside the shops – giving the Sunday shoppers the opportunity to contribute to our Parish Collection,” states Henrik Stubkjær.
“We have reached the expected result of DKK 14 million. This is in particular fantastic and gratifying considering that only a fortnight ago the Danish population contributed over DKK 56 million at the impressive TV event called “Denmark’s Collection,” says the General Secretary.
