Building up local capacity

DanChurchAid will focus on enhancing the local capacity for disaster prevention and preparedness as integral elements of development initiatives.

Information on prevention, soil and water conservation

The programmes encompass preventive measures like preparation of preparedness plans, training aimed at following these plans through in acute situations, as well as general information to vulnerable groups on prevention, soil and water conservation, and other relevant mechanisms.

Intervention often falls within the following categories:

  1. Efforts directly targeted at the poorest target groups, including the poorest women, local authorities and/or organisations in areas affected by recurring disasters
  2. Networks between organisations and agents aimed at exchanging experience and generating new knowledge of connections between disaster prevention/preparedness and long-term development
  3. Activities related to advocacy directed towards legislation and national or international actors.
