The action is entitled “Humanitarian Mine Action Programme: demining activities and spot tasks in surveyed and prioritized zones, by using two teams of 7 members.”
Through demining operations that will take place in Katanga (Tanganyika District), South Kivu and ManiemaProvinces the objectives of DCA, supported by Europeaid, are the following:
- To reduce the risks of accidents caused by landmines and Unexploded Ordnance.
- To give the population (war affected local people, IDPs and Refugees) access to agricultural lands, water and basic social services.
- To develop a national competence to ensure the sustainability of Humanitarian Mine Action Activities.
The different steps of the project will be:
- To recruit and equip two demining teams. Each team will be composed of 7 people: 4 deminers + 2 medical staff + 1 team leader
- To train the demining teams under the supervision of International Technical Advisors.
- To start executing demining activities, to ensure the quality of the work and its adherence to International Standards.
Expected results:
- 600 zones are cleared and returned to the population
- Between 150 000 and 200 000 persons benefit from the project in the three provinces (direct and indirect beneficiaries).
- Transfer of competence and sustainability of the project is ensured.
