Programme work

DanChurchAid works with aid to internally displaced in Burundi and Burundian refugees in Tanzania .

DanChurchAid is also implementing a humanitarian mine action programme in Burundi with focus on enabling safe access to the returning refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) as well as removing mines that pose blockages to war affected communities.

Repatriation of refugees

In cooperation with LWF Burundi and Tanganyika Christian Refugee Service (TCRS), DanChurchAid works to ensure a viable repatriating and reestablishing process for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Burundi together with an improved access to food goods and basic social services such as primary education, health and shelter in the local societies where the returned IDPs are reestablishing.

Through the Relief Aid Programme , DanChurchAid has supported TCRS's work with the Burundian refugees in Kibondo in Tanzania . In an agreement with UNHCR , TCRS is responsible for the camp management, food distribution, water and sanitation for approx. 150,000 refugees. DanChurchAid supports the overall management, self-help programmes for refugees, education and advocacy for refugees' rights.

Mine clearance

In 2004, the DCA Humanitarian Mine Action project started the training of two mobile demining teams to execute clearance in the Makamba province. Through the HMA programme in Burundi, DanChurchAid has trained manual clearance, EOD capacity as well as survey capacity that is surveying the Makamba province.
