Mahder is 33 years old and a single mother, living with her three children; a boy of nine and two girls of seven and three.

Asked why and how she was chosen to be a GIVE A GOAT beneficiary, Mahder explains
‘‘Me and my children slept with out eating any food for quite a lot of days. My husband left me two years ago and married to a wealthy women very close to our village.

The Give a Goat project is a fundraising initative by DanChurchAid, where companies or private individuals can donate livestock, crops or other items for the poorest in the areas where DCA works. Read more on donation options

When the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekanyesus / EECMY started this project, all the villagers gave me priority, so that I could benefit from the GIVE A GOAT project. The project gave me two female goats and now I have four goats. Last month, I sold one of the goats and bought grain for my self and the kids. I milk them and we drink the milk, it is very nutritious mainly for my kids”, say Mahder.

“Now, I am very much respected in the community. Previously my kids were forced to go and plead for food in the villages but not now. I thank Mekanyesus and all people who donated me with these goats”, Mahder explains, smiling.
