Action for Development

01/02/2006: DanChurchAid has selected Action for Development to implement a livelihood security and good governance project in Ethiopia from funds allocated from the 2005 Parish Collection.

Action for Development is a secular NGO evolved out of the FAO-operated Freedom From Hunger Campaign/Action for Development (FFHC/AD) in the 1980s in Ethiopia.

The NGO is well established and democratically governed organization implementing livelihood diversification, community capacity building, promotion of good governance, disaster preparedness and management and crosscutting issues of HIV/AIDS and gender projects in the drylands of Borena within Oromiya and Southern Region of the country.

Action for Development uses participatory approaches stemming from the cultural norms of indigenous pastoralist people which are important in dealing with long-marginalized groups like the Borena pastoralists.

Livelihood security and good governance projects

Owing to its strengths in working with pastoralists in partnership with credible partners, DanChurchAid has selected AFD to implement a livelihood security and good governance project from funds allocated from the 2005 Parish Collection.

The project focuses on reversing the continued deterioration of the livestock asset base of pastoralists through introduction and strengthening of other livelihood options. It also strives to inform and organize (or use existing traditional institutions) pastoralists to influence local decision making processes.
