Partners and activities

Through decades, DanChurchAid has established a strong and well-developed engagement with Sudanese churches and other partner organisations. Both locally and internationally, the churches have been the only consistent voice for Sudanese civil society on issues concerning the Southerners.

List of partners in Sudan:

Sudan Council of Churches

Sudan Council of Churches (SCC) is based in Khartoum and working in northern Sudan. The programmes supported by DanChurchAid are advocacy, women and general support to improve the capacity of the SCC. The advocacy programmes include peace building and conflict resolution and legal assistance for victims of human rights abuses. The women's programmes include strengthening of women structures in SCC member churches and empowerment of women with skills in leadership and micro-business. SEF's role in DanChurchAid programme work in Sudan is international and national advocacy and monitoring.

Church Ecumenical Action Sudan

Church Ecumenical Action Sudan (CEAS) is a consortium of three original members, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), the World Council of Churches (WCC) and Caritas joined by the NSCC and SCC. It is a unique consortium given that it includes both Catholic and Protestant networks and as it has Sudanese representation at the highest level of governance. CEAS's overall aim is to strengthen churches and other organisations/institutions that are able to mobilise their communities to take charge of their own rehabilitation. CEAS' role in DanChurchAid programme work in Sudan is: capacity building with the partners NSCC and ROOF; food security, water, health, gender, livestock, infrastructure improvement, emergencies in Blue Nile and Upper Nile.

Nuba Relief, Rehabilitation and Development Agency

Nuba Relief, Rehabilitation and Development Agency (NRRDO) is an indigenous NGO operating in the Nuba Mountains. The main office is based in Nairobi. The Nuba people have been continuously the target of offensive warfare by the Sudanese governments. People have been forced further up in the food insecure mountains and away from their fertile land. NRRDO's role in DanChurchAid programme work in Sudan is: capacity building, food security, returnees and education in Southern Kordofan.

OSIL and JASMAR

In the Nuba Mountains, DanChurchAid has taken an innovative cross conflict approach involving the NGOs JASMAR and OSIL from the government and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement sides respectively. This is aimed to contribute to the peace and confidence-building effort between the different sides of the conflict. OSIL and JASMAR's role in DanChurchAid programme work in Sudan is in connection with humanitarian mine action.
