ACT International is a global alliance of Protestant and Orthodox churches and their related agencies from the membership of the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation. In Zambia there are four ACT members. These are: Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) and Zambia Christian Refugees Service/LWF as well as DanChurchAid and its sister organisation Norwegian Church Aid (NCA). The Zambia ACT Forum is however still in its starting phase. A future aim is to facilitate cross-border experiences between the ACT Fora in the Southern Africa region.
DCA-Zambia work together with its APRODEV sister organisations; Diakonia and Norwegian Church Aid. APRODEV is the association of the 17 major development and humanitarian aid organisations in Europe, which work closely together with the World Council of Churches. APRODEV agencies engage in many kinds of activities related to development cooperation: fund raising, funding of emergency, relief, rehabilitation and development activities, capacity building, consultancy, awareness raising, education, and advocacy.
DCA-Zambia is a member of CSPR ; a Zambian network of civil society organisations involved in poverty reduction. CSPR is a civil society network that came together in October 2000 with the main objective of ensuring that the civil society effectively participated in the formulation of Zambia’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP).
CSPR has extended its activities to monitoring the PRSP and other government policies, programmes and activities aimed at poverty eradication. CSPR’s main activity is advocacy around poverty reduction issues. The advocacy is supported by poverty monitoring currently centred around PRSP, research, information dissemination and capacity building.
In order to strengthen the north-south cooperation, DanChurchAid is actively involved in the Nordic-FOCCISA group (Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa). The Nordic FOCCISA is engaged in issues such as leaderships and management training, economic justice, women theologians and youth. It recently lauched the publication One Body, which represents a joint ecumenical response to HIV/AIDS both in Africa and elsewhere.
DCA Zambia is participating in several networking fora. DCA Zambia is part of the International NGO forum (INGO) and frequently participates in meetings in the INGO subcommittee on Livelihoods and HIV.
