Programme work

DanChurchAid's involvement in Zimbabwe is motivated by the cross-border links between events in the various countries.

The unrest in Zimbabwe spills over into other countries, and the diminished food production affects food security in the region.

DanChurchAid's emergency activities in Zimbabwe is mainly concentrated on food distribution, supplementary feeding, seed distribution and capacity building of the local partner and ACT network .

Famine relief

DanChurchAid relief support to Zimbabwe is mainly implemented by the local organisation Christian Care that has been a DanChurchAid partner for several years. The World Food Programme (WFP) estimates that more than four million people in Zimbabwe - a third of the population - faces food shortages.

ACT members Christian Care and the Lutheran Development Services are supporting people who are facing potential acute food shortages through:

  • Food distribution
  • Providing protein enriched food to persons affected by HIV and AIDS, children and pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • Making available drought resistant seeds for the coming planting season.
  • Provision of mobile kits for secondary care givers
  • Psychosocial support.

The relief support will be implemented in the provinces of Masvingo, Midlands, North and South Matebeleland. It is funded by DanChurchAid's parish collection funds and Danida .
