Families have received relief items

Copenhagen, 07/12/2007: Around 2000 families, who have been hit by cyclone Sidr, have received relief items.

Rice, oil, blankets, and much more have been distributed to families, who lost everything when cyclone Sidr hit the coast of Bangladesh in mid November.

DanChurchAid and its local partner Dushtha Shasthya Kendra , DSK, have distributed relief items to around 2000 families by the end of November, and the last items were distributed December 3rd. The distribution is concentrated in Bagerhat distrikt.

The relief aid from DanChurchAid is so far worth 300.000 DKK. The aid is a part of a joint relief effort through the global alliance of churches and related agencies, Action by Churches Together (ACT).

Each family gets a relief packages, which contains food for two weeks.

Over 8.5 million people are affected by the cyclone. More than 500.000 homes have been destroyed; around one million homes have been damaged. Over 2 million acres of crops were damaged and over 1.25 million livestock have drowned according to UN’s News agency, IRIN News .
