Focus on modern slavery

11/04/2006: DanChurchAid cooperates with Scandinavia's largest music festival "Roskilde Festival" about the humanitarian focus "Modern slavery". There are many different forms of slavery, for instance debt slavery, forced marriages, forced labour and inherited slavery.

Often, people end up as slaves after having been exposed to trafficking – meaning that they have been sold, in most cases to an intermediary, for some kind of exploitation. This could be prostitution or cheap labour.

The fact is that people are bought and sold as goods, and trafficking is the means with which it takes place.

Collaborating with the largest music festival in Scandinavia

For the 4th year in a row Roskilde Festival and DanChurchAid’s youth network, consisting of 50-100 young people, are cooperating on deposit collection (from plastic cups and bottles) and an information campaign related to the humanitarian focus on the festival. In 2006 the theme is “Modern Slavery” under the slogan “Act Against Slavery”. The profits of the humanitarian bottle deposit collection Roskilde ’06 will be donated to DanChurchAid’s work on helping the victims and prevent modern slavery in Cambodia.
