12/05/2006: DanChurchAid has been working with partners in Sri Lanka since the 1980s, supporting in particular assistance to people displaced by the civil war in Sri Lanka. The overall framework for DanChurchAid's work in Sri Lanka includes assistance for internally displaced persons, relief and rehabilitation and gender equality.

DanChurchAid’s overall humanitarian programme in Sri Lanka is focusing on tsunami affected people and internally displaced persons.

It is a long-term effort covering distribution of food in emergency situations, building temporary shelters and helping people regaining income and thus returning to a normal, everyday life as far as possible.

Conflict sensitive approach

The work is carried out with a conflict sensitive approach, and aid is given to Singhalese, Tamil and Muslim groups; thus signaling that DanChurchAid is neutral concerning the conflict.

DanChurchAid supports Tamil people, who have fled from Sri Lanka to Tamil Nadu – a state in southern India where more than 60,000 live in small refugee camps.
