Advocacy in Central America

24/05/2006: Sustainable development in Central America will only be achieved through overcoming the structural barriers obstructing the rights of poor, marginalised and oppressed people to assert their basic rights to food, health, education and a life in dignity.

Most of the problems that poor and marginalised people are facing in Central America have structural causes.

Supporting local partners' advocacy work

DanChurchAid is not only focusing on providing help for the most immediate needs, but also on strengthening civil society’s capacity to influence political processes and power structures.

DanChurchAid supports its partners' political advocacy work towards the governments and is also working on the international level.

European NGO networks

At the European level, DanChurchAid participates in European NGO networks pressuring the European governments to take responsibility for agricultural policies as well as trade and aid policies affecting the populations in Central America. This is mainly done through the European network PICA.

DanChurchAid cooperates with European sister organisations within the Association of Protestant Development organisations, APRODEV , as well as the Copenhagen Initiative for Central America, CIFCA , in both cases mainly in relation to advocacy on Central American issues directed at European institutions and governments.
