Disaster preparedness

11/05/2006: Most of Central America is highly exposed to extreme natural phenomena such as cyclones, floods and droughts, which are regularly occasioning disaster situations, especially in poorer and more remote areas.

DanChurchAid is supporting a regional disaster preparedness programme, covering Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Regional response to emergencies

The programme aims at strengthening the national capacities to prevent and mitigate natural disasters by building up a regional response to emergencies.

Part of DanChurchAid’s support is channelled through the international network Action by Churches Together (ACT).

Regional committee for Central America

DanChurchAid has participated in the establishment of national committees in Honduras and Guatemala as well as a regional committee for Central America.

The network has made it possible to set up a corpse of partners to be immediately mobilised in times of natural disasters for protection and help to exposed population groups.
