The money raised through Operation Day's Work in 2005 has been donated to one of DanChurchAid’s local partner organisations, Center for Protection of Children, CPC. The total sum was DKK 7.8 million (approx. USD 1,326,688).
CPC works in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, and their overall aim is to have children and young people who are outside the school system return to education.
CPC is running a shelter for 25 street children. Here the children can live temporarily until CPC staff find a solution to their housing problems.
CPC also runs day care centres in two of the capital’s big markets so that children and young people working in the markets can have a meal. By doing this, the social workers establish contact with the children and it puts them in a position to help the children and their families in other ways.
The day care centres offer medical checks and teaching to the children. Finally, the centres work towards registering the children with the authorities so that they can return to the education system.
The project runs from January 2006 until December 2010.
