The climate goes haywire

The world’s climate is changing. Rising temperatures, melting ice, rising water levels, increasing precipitation, more draughts and other extremes are already a reality. This has serious consequences – especially for the world’s poorest countries that do not have the necessary means to prevent or adapt to the disasters that follow in the wake of global warming.

Challenges

Denmark has still not experienced any serious consequences of these climate changes. But in many countries in Asia, Africa and South America the climate changes are already causing draughts, floods and other natural disasters. Aside from these natural disasters that kill many people, the changes also create hunger and conflicts concerning land; conflicts that displace people in the poorest parts of the world.

This is what we do

DanChurchAid’s climate work focuses on three areas:

  • dotEmergency relief and prevention
  • dotLong-term development and introduction of new technology
  • dotAdvocacy – political work

Seeing as many of the world’s poorest countries are located in the tropics, they are already exposed to draughts, floods and storms. Therefore, they are more vulnerable to small changes. And the population lacks knowledge, means and influence with which to act and thus reduce the consequences.
