This destruction falls well into the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration process. The destruction was overseen by MONUC.
The disarmament is accelerating in Kalemie Area with also Mai-Mai agreeing to surrender stockpiles.
Hence even more items are expected for the stockpile destruction in the very near future.
DanChurchAid was approached to conduct demolitions as it is already executing mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal activities in the Tanganyika district since October 2005.
