Who we are

About DanChurchAid

Established in 1922, DanChurchAid (DCA) is today one of the major Danish humanitarian non governmental organisations (NGO), working with local partners, international networks, churches and non-religious civil organisations to assist the poorest of the poor.

The work abroad

DanChurchAid's work abroad is focused on the poorest population groups in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central America, and Central Asia & Eastern Europe.

Aid is given regardless of race, creed, political or religious affiliation.

Objecives and values

DanChurchAid is a faith-based and ecumenical, non-missionary organisation rooted in the Danish National Evangelical Lutheran Church. DanChurchAid carries out its work with the objective:

  • "To help and be advocates of oppressed, neglected and marginalised groups in poor countries and to strengthen their possibilities of a life in dignity."

Regular contributors and popular support

A broad network of more than 100,000 regular contributors enables DanChurchAid to respond rapidly to assist people in need. Approximately five per cent of all Danish households contribute regularly to DanChurchAid.

DanChurchAid has an established network of popular support and recognition, including nearly 4,000 volunteers, 120 second-hand shops and around 20,000 persons who assist in the annual door-to-door Parish collection campaign.

Financed by private donations and funds

DanChurchAid is an independent non-profit organisation whose activities are financed by private donations and funds from the Danish government (Danida), the UN, EU and other bilateral donors.

The organisation has a long-term framework agreement with Danida, a framework partnership agreement with the Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) of the European Commission, and has implemented numerous contracts with the EuropeAid Co-operation Office and several UN agencies. Further details on DanChurchAid's donors and funds can be found under International donors.

Part of an international alliance

DanChurchAid is a member of ACT International, a global alliance of churches and related agencies. ACT works ecumenically to make a real and lasting difference to peoples’ lives through high quality, coordinated and effective humanitarian, development and advocacy work.

The cooperation between the members of ACT Alliance increases efficiency, effectiveness and impact of our work. ACT members are sharing analysis, experience and information, joining efforts in planning, prioritising and strategising together, and coordinating emergency responses and programmes - to the benefit of the poor.

The unity of the ACT Alliance gives us the strength to make our concerns heard and efforts seen; to influence the political agenda and be the voice of the disadvantaged on a world scene less and less concerned with their issues.
