Civic Space as a pre-condition for the success of the SDGs

and for ‘Leaving no one behind'

DanChurchAid and ACT Alliance partners has recently launched a study titled ‘Development Needs Civil Society – Implications of Civic Space for the Sustainable Development Goals’.

The study is based on research and case studies from 12 countries carried out by Institute of Development Studies (IDS) 2017-2018.

The study concludes that civil society plays a pivotal role in ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind, that governments and other duty-bearers are kept accountable and that development is sustainable. Consequently the study argues that the SDGs will not be achieved if the implications of shrinking civic space is not resolved.

The study has been launched in through a series of event, including at ACT EU General Assembly, OECD International Conference on Civil Society Space and High Level Political Forum 2019.
