Building an Inclusive and Dignified Community by Protecting Human Rights, Augmenting non-Discrimination and Promoting Integration of Most Vulnerable Communities in Dhading District of Nepal

The project contributed with enhancing the quality of life of five vulnerable population groups in disaster-affected communities, namely elderly, disabled, single women, internally displaced people (IDPs) and households that are poor and food insecure, through mainstreaming them into the reconstruction efforts.

Project Description
The project has resulted in a stronger database on vulnerable groups contributing to finding solutions to reduce vulnerability; empowerment of vulnerable groups and their representative organisation and networks to claim rights, social protection and services; increased support for vulnerable groups in food security and livelihoods through appropriate income generation opportunities; and, access to resilient housing for selected vulnerable households.

In total, the project has benefitted 6,907 people in Three Palikas (Municipalities) in Dhadhing District of Nepal, which is one of the most affected earthquake districts of Nepal.

The BIHANI project is the part of FCDO's (formerly DFID) longer-term project on reconstruction, PURNIMA, that has been contracted to Mott Macdonald. The project promoted “Evidence-based Inclusive Livelihood Enhancement Approach”, which is a combination of various components evolved out from years of experiences gained and evidence collected by the proposed consortium partners and deeming it being the most appropriate in reaching the most vulnerable communities.
