 DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for an experienced Engineer to lead our shelter upgrade, localised site improvement and DRR activities.
 
DCA is a Danish humanitarian, non-government and non-profit organisation that has been working in Bangladesh since 1980s. As a response to the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, DCA together with its local partner responded through the provision of emergency relief, WASH and setting up women safe spaces. DCA is expanding its coverage to address the needs in shelter and localized site improvements and has incorporated a disaster risk reduction component to build the capacity of the Rohingya communities to prevent and respond to disasters.
 
The experienced Engineer will provide the technical lead on DCA’s activities within the field of shelter, DRR and other activities . The Engineer  will ensure that interventions are technically sound, take into account guidelines from the Shelter / NFI sector coordination mechanisms, and are appropriately meeting the needs of the target communities. The Engineer will be based in the  Cox’s Bazar.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor/graduate degree in Civil engineering  with at least 5 years of practical experience on design and implementation of shelter and disaster risk reduction in congested camp setting and or high density slum area
  • Practical experience and knowledge on global and Bangladesh DRR related policies and practices, core humanitarian standard, gender and social inclusion
  • Experience on  utilization of engineering tools and software such as AutoCAD and GIS
  • Experience with cash-based programming a plus
  • High level proficiency in professional writing and communication in English and preferably also in Bangla
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation, proactivity, creativity and an ability to perform tasks without close supervision
