… and everyone should be aware of them. We want to make rights comprehensible and applicable for all.
The Issue
The universal declaration of human rights underpins that all people should be able to freely exercise and enjoy their human rights, and these are upheld by the Cambodian constitution. However, many people are not fully aware of these rights, which can make it harder to access services, make informed decisions, and feel confident in different situations. By increasing awareness, people are better able to understand their options, protect their well-being, and participate more actively in their communities.
Awareness can be strengthened through media, training, campaigns, and other targeted and accessible approaches that make information easy to understand for all audiences. This is critical to ensure that everyone can benefit from and apply this knowledge in their everyday lives.
The Project
Through DCA’s partnership approach, we are working with local partners to increase knowledge and awareness of human rights and enable everyone to enjoy exercising their universal rights throughout their daily lives. The project produced credible news contents related to the promotion of human rights and labor rights, freedom of expression, gender equality, and livelihood activities. The project provides individuals and target groups with essential resources, including emergency assistant, financial and psycosocial care and other forms of support that enable them to protect their safety, secure their basic needs and rights towards resilient community.
Considering that strong organizational sustainability and resilience are essential to community-driven solutions and protecting human rights universally, DCA prioritizes capacity building initiative, provides alternative funding sources and fosters synergies among the local NGOs. We initiated collective learning sessions that helps them to design and test new ideas and expand it. Furthermore, we also coordinate them to participate in national, regional and international dialogues that help increase international connection and collaboration for funding opportunities and financial sustainability.
The Change
Overall, the project aims to promote a Cambodian society that values and upholds the rights of all, ensuring that everyone can live a full life with dignity. It seeks to increase people’s understanding of their basic rights by supporting them to apply these rights in their daily lives.
In addition, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of local organisations to be aligned with Cambodian laws and remain accountable to the communities they serve. Stronger institutions will be better equipped to deliver effective services, engage meaningfully with communities, and contribute to broader social development.
The Result
By March 2026, the project has produced over 400 pieces of news content accessed by over a million online unique usrs. The project has also provided essential assistant to over 3000 individuals to protect their safety and secure their basic needs and rights.
