DanChurchAid in South Sudan

DCA South Sudan provides inclusive humanitarian and development assistance to the most vulnerable individuals and communities in areas affected by disasters and emergencies caused by conflict and climate change. We work to build safer communities through humanitarian mine action and explosive ordnance risk education in local communities and schools.

Main activities

DanChurchAid is focusing on the triple nexus in South Sudan through the following activities with a strong focus on women and youth:

Humanitarian Mine Action

Building safer communities by clearing land of mines and Explosive Remnants of War and increasing safety awareness through Explosive Ordnance Risk Education.

Saving lives through humanitarian response

Responding to the humanitarian needs of disaster-affected households, we support local structures to develop preparedness plans to ensure a timely and appropriate response to the needs of communities, including internally displaced people and returnees.

Our emergency response mechanism (ERM) can be applied across all DCA locations in South Sudan to allow for timely and effective cash-based emergency response to sudden-onset crises.

Food Security and livelihoods

Working together with local partners we respond to food security and livelihoods needs of South Sudanese communities through market and cash-based programming.

Peace and conflict mitigation

DCA supports local partners working with community structures (peacebuilding committees) to prevent and mitigate conflict through peace building activities in conflict-prone communities.

Women’s empowerment

Through local partners DCA promotes women’s economic, political and social empowerment. Women and girls are the primary stakeholders in these interventions, taking charge of their lives and claiming equal rights, while men and boys are actively engaged with continuous support from DCA and partners.

We support providers working to support GBV and rape victims, incl. psychosocial support, and work with traditional leaders to facilitate sustainable attitude change towards women and girls.

Education

Implementing basic primary education programmes to refugees and host communities. Constructing school facilities, supporting girls at these schools and providing teachers with incentives among others.
