What has happened in Nepal?
On Wednesday morning, Nepal was hit by severe flooding. DanChurchAid is present in the affected areas and is coordinating its response closely with our local partner, Action Nepal, as well as all relevant local authorities and other humanitarian organisations. Right now, the top priority is to rescue people who are trapped or missing and to deliver emergency assistance to those affected as quickly as possible.
How is DanChurchAid helping?
DanChurchAid and Action Nepal are on the ground in the affected areas, providing emergency relief to families who have lost their homes and belongings. As an initial response, we are distributing essential items such as blankets, cooking pots, and containers for clean drinking water, helping families stay warm, prepare meals, and store water safely.
In addition we are also supporting search and rescue teams with basic equipment in some areas.
How have the floods affected Nepal?
The floods have hit the Rasuwa District, near the border with Tibet, in Central Nepal particularly hard. Entire communities have been inundated, and roads, bridges, and buildings have been destroyed. The area is difficult to access, and blocked roads are making it hard to rescue those who have been injured and deliver emergency aid to families who have lost their homes and possessions.
How long has DanChurchAid worked in Nepal?
DanChurchAid has been working in Nepal since the 1980s. In 2026 we have 22 staff members and work with 12 local partners. Together, we focus on areas such as democracy and human rights, disaster preparedness, and humanitarian assistance, with a particular emphasis on supporting the most vulnerable people.
