Accelerating multistakeholder action for Food Systems Change

Dialogue Session organised by Danfoss, Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya and DanChurchAid

Online event: 26th of May 2025 – 13-14h CEST / 14-15h EAT / 07-08h EDT

Staggering amounts of food continue to be lost and wasted every year, while global hunger and food insecurity levels remain higher than pre-pandemic levels. Accelerating climate change impacts food security and at the same time up to 10% of global emissions come from food loss and waste. Reducing global food loss and waste could generate multiple benefits for economies, for business and consumers, and for the environment – saving money and resources, feeding more and easing pressure on ecosystems. However, while 1,2 trillion USD worth of food is trashed every year, finance flows to reduce food loss and waste are insufficient.

There is broad, global consensus on the need for integrated, multistakeholder solutions, such as the Champions 12.3, to tackle the complex challenge.  The Danish Strategy for Strengthened Engagement with African Countries and the Danida Green Business Partnership modality similarly highlight a commitment to convene multistakeholder partnerships to catalyze investments to transition to more climate adapted and circular agri-food systems.

Lessons from the Loss 2 Value Project

The Loss 2 Value project exemplifies impactful collaboration to develop and scale cooling solutions to reduce post-harvest loss among smallholder farmers in the horticultural value chains in Kenya. Engaging Danfoss, global lead in cooling technologies in collaboration with Kenyan private sector partners and Danish and Kenyan civil society, the project showcases how multistakeholder, cross-sectoral solutions accelerate transformative change for smallholder farmers whose incomes and food security is deeply affected by food loss. A Dialogue for Future Food Systems

This dialogue session gathers key stakeholders from government, private sector, civil society, private foundations, academia, think tanks, technology innovators and farmers organizations in Denmark and internationally to share learnings from the L2V case and discuss how to accelerate integrated, multistakeholder solutions and financing models for more circular, resilient and just food systems.
