DanChurchAid is appalled by the continuing conflict in the Middle East, and by attacks on Lebanon by Israel on 8 April. Civilians and humanitarian aid workers continue to be targeted and displaced, living in fear for their lives and those of their families.

More than 3,000 people have been killed and over four million displaced across the region since 28 February 2026.

International legal frameworks that are meant to prevent such atrocities and protect civilians are not being respected or enforced, despite all states having an obligation to ensure compliance.

Grave breaches and violations of International Humanitarian Law are occurring across the region. The right to self-determination is being violated, and processes of de facto and de jure annexation of territory by force persist. Meanwhile, civilians are being displaced, killed, and persecuted.

DanChurchAid calls on all members of the international community to take immediate action to end the conflict and halt violations of international law, to support the response to the massive humanitarian needs, and to ensure accountability.

Failure to act will lead to further human suffering and instability and further erode an already fragile rules-based international order.
