Since the Israeli siege and military campaign in Gaza in the wake of Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, DCA/NCA Palestine has been on the ground in Gaza providing humanitarian assistance to the best of our ability – and to the extent possible.
DCA’s work in Palestine started in 1950 – and in 2008 we opened a DCA Palestine office. By 2024 the Palestine office represent a joint programme with Norwegian Church Aid (NCA).
DCA/NCA Palestine works in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel through local civil society organisations on everything from short-term humanitarian aid to more long-term efforts.
The Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot
Together with other NGO’s the ‘Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot’ has been released monthly starting 15 July 2024.
You can find the snapshots below.
- Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 13 November 2024
Humanitarian aid entering Gaza has fallen to an all-time low. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) released an urgent alert on 8 November reporting that there is a strong likelihood that famine is already occurring in northern Gaza, and that immediate action is required within days, not weeks, to address the crisis - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 9 October 2024
Thousands of aid items are delayed – medical supplies, plywood and insulation, hygiene kits, food and much more are stuck for days, weeks and months at border crossings. Combined with a lack of cash and fuel, displacement of staff, and bombardment operating in Gaza is extremely difficult. - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 10 September 2024
In August, the number of humanitarian missions and movements within Gaza that have been denied access by Israeli authorities has doubled in the north (34% vs.19%) and almost doubled in the south (27% vs 14%), compared with July. At least 553 Palestinians were killed and 1291 injured between 27 August and 8 September, with the death toll now rising to 40,988, and at least 94,825 injured, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 28 August 2024
70% of NGOs surveyed have been forced to reduce their aid in the “humanitarian zone” – after the lowest amount of aid enter Gaza in July in the past 10 months. Israel has limited the types of good that can enter Gaza – restricting the import of goods that may have dual-use for both civilian and military applications. Restricted goods include soap and diapers. - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 12 August 2024
Most NGOs in Gaza face severe liquidity issues. Limited cash availability, difficulties with wire transfers, and vendors’ reluctance to accept alternative payment methods hampers the payment of salaries for staff and contractors and the purchase of essential items. - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 30 July 2024
Due to fuel shortages, DanChurchAid (DCA)/Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and other NGOs responding to water and sanitation needs, report that the price of water trucking has increased, which will significantly impact on the number of people in need who can be reached. - Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot 15 July 2024
DCA/NCA staff often move around in Gaza on foot or by donkey cart. Being in Gaza does not guarantee that you can deliver aid. This issue focuses on how not only movement in and out of Gaza is restricted but movement inside the strip is perilous and difficult which further hampers the ability to deliver aid.
